B-Alternative at Local Markets!

A sense of community is an important thing in these difficult times. We are bombarded with insecticide ridden and processed foods, single use packaging and food containers wherever we look. Farmers' Markets provide a sense of community with a relaxed more personalised service for people who are comfortable in the knowledge of the source of their food. It is also an opportunity for the community to show their love to our unsung heroes -- the hardworking farmers!

Unsung heroes! Jace with our beloved local farmers!

Dog-friendly!

B-Alternative seeks to address these issues by encouraging local Farmers' Markets to go plastic bag free and to promote the use of reusable mugs, plates and cutlery. We are committed to raising awareness in the community about the impact our choices of packaging and take away food and drink containers have on our environment and the future of our planet.

Farmers' Markets are about not transporting our food for hundreds of miles or storing it in cold storage for weeks or months as all stall holders are local. Stallholders are reducing our carbon footprint by providing fresh, high quality food at competitive prices.

B-Alternative has been working with various local Farmers' Markets around Port Phillip Bay, Torquay and Yamba in NSW. We provide alternatives to plastic by way of locally made produce bags, Boomerang Bags, reusable mugs and water bottles, bamboo straws and cutlery, cutlery kits, LifeCycle grow your own mushroom kits, reef safe sunscreen and other great eco products.

We have also provided a mug library at all markets which has recently been adopted by Little Olive Cafe at Bonbeach Farmers Market! We hope more coffee providers will do the same!

Mug Library!

Much of our time at the markets is spent in conversation with customers and stallholders on environmental issues, sourcing further alternatives to single use plastic and Beach Patrol beach clean up activities. Our aim is to keep these issues high on the agenda and in the public eye. We are committed to assisting people to make the changes, no matter how small and to supporting those who are already on the journey of responsible living on our beautiful planet!
